Microsoft Edge: Users must not be allowed to ignore Windows Defender SmartScreen filter warnings for malicious websites (Windows 10)

857ef3ca-acd6-4d9e-900c-211b7ea5a04d

The Windows Defender SmartScreen filter in Microsoft Edge provides warning messages and blocks potentially malicious websites and file downloads. If users are allowed to ignore warnings from the Windows Defender SmartScreen filter they could still access malicious websites.

This only applies to Windows 10 OS, others OS versions will be marked as not applicable.

Remediation

To fix this configure the policy value for
Computer Configuration
|_ Administrative Templates
|_ Windows Components
|_ Microsoft Edge
|_ "Prevent bypassing Windows Defender SmartScreen prompts for sites" to "Enabled".

Windows 10 includes duplicate policies for this setting. It can also be configured under
Computer Configuration
|_ Administrative Templates
|_ Windows Components
|_ Windows Defender SmartScreen
|_ Microsoft Edge.
