Reports

Reports allow you to save and run the same or similar searches without having to specify the search criteria again. EventSentry distinguishes between Standard and Custom reports. Additionally, reports can be

 

assigned to a category
made private
set to require a review

 

A report history is also kept, allowing you to review a history of all reports that were generated.

Reports are always grouped by category, and all reports of a given category can be shown/hidden by the category bar.

 

Standard Reports

Any search, including event log, performance, compliance and so forth can be saved as a "Standard Report". To save a search as a report, simply click the Save this search button on the bottom of the result set which will yield the dialog illustrated below:

Report Name, Comment

Specify a name and/or comment for the report. A comment is recommended but not required.

 

Category

To assign the newly created report to an existing category, select it from the drop down list. To create a new category, specify the name of the new category in the "or create new" field.

 

Review

If this reports needs to be reviewed on a regular basis, check the Require Review box and specify the review requirements.

 

Save Report for my user only

When checked, the report will only be visible to you, other users will not see the report.

 

Always include in Popular Reports

When checked, ensures that this report is always shown in the Popular Reports section of the Network Overview page, regardless as to how often this report will be run.

 

Custom Reports

Custom reports can only be created for event log searches, and allow you to create more advanced searches than what is available on the event search page. See Event Log Searches -> Custom Reports for more information.

 

Manipulating multiple reports

You can delete or change the review options on multiple reports by checking their check box, and clicking the Delete or Require Review button respectively.

 

Review

If a report needs to be reviewed on a regular basis, then you can configure the report to require a review. Reports that have not been run in the required time period will be flagged on the reports page, and also be listed in the Overdue Reports section of the Network Overview page.

To configure a report for a review, simply click the Review button in the report box. You can mark multiple reports to require a review by selecting them and then clicking the Review button on the top of the page.

 

Scope

When creating a report with the Save Reports for my user only option, then the report will only be viewable for your user account, other users will not see the report.

 

Import / Export

Reports can be exported as a XML file, and also be imported back into the web reports. The default installation of EventSentry does not include any reports, and our standard reports can be loaded from the EventSentryReports.xml file, which is located in the Reports sub directory of your EventSentry installation.

 

Report History

Any time a report is run, details about the execution of the report are added to the report history. The following information about a report is available in the report history:

 

Date/Time
Report Name
Username
Load Time
Returned Results (if applicable)
View Time (how long the report was viewed, if available)
