The Maintenance Wizard allows data to be purged from the EventSentry database that has become obsolete or is invalid. Please note that you can also purge old data automatically with supported databases.
With the Maintenance Wizard you can remove the following data:
Remove all instances (data) of a computer Removes all data collected by a computer. This is useful when a computer has been decommissioned or is not available anymore. It is possible to select and remove multiple computers at a time. When a group is linked to Active Directory and a computers is removed it will be flagged as an Orphaned computer. By clicking the checkbox all orphaned computers will selected.
Remove only certain instances of a computer Removes certain data collected by a computer, for example you can remove all disk space data from a selected computers, or all performance data.
Remove a Performance Counter Removes all data from a performance counter either from a selected or from all computers.
Remove a Logical Drive Removes all data from a selected logical drive, for example when a disk has been removed or the drive letter has changed.
Remove Nessus Scan Removes all data associated with a Nessus scan from the database. All data that was collected during the selected scan will be removed from the database.
Remove a Comment Removes a comment from the database.
Remove a Filter Removes a filter from the database. This does not delete all event log data associated with this filter, it merely removes the selected filter from the list of filters.
Remove Binary Data Removes binary data collected with event log messages from the database. This does not delete all event log message associated, it simply removes the binary data.
Delete old Data Removes old data from the database. For example, you can delete old event log data or old disk space data from a selected or all computers. Depending on the speed and size of your database, deleting old data can take a very long time and we recommend against using this feature during peak business hours. Please note that you can also purge old data automatically with supported databases.
Remove Event Type Allows data to be trimmed from the database based on type. This is helpful when keeping Errors and Warning messages while removing Information events.
SQL Regardless of the selection there will always be the option to view SQL or Remove. By selecting SQL the Maintenance Wizard will generate the appropriate SQL statements needed to remove the selection. It may be helpful when removing large amounts of data to copy these statements into the available database tools such as MySQL Query Browser or SQL Server Management Studio. Using SQL does not require any authentication.
Remove In order to remove data from the database it is required that an Administrative password like sa for SQL Server or root for MySQL is provided. The Maintenance Wizard will display a progress bar for each area of the web reports that is being removed. Since each area is purged separated this will avoid timeout issues previously experienced in earlier versions of the Maintenance Wizard. By clicking on the Copy SQL to clipboard the SQL statements being used to purge this area will be copied to the clipboard for use on the database tools available.
There was a problem In the event this message is presented, clicking on the message will reveal more information. This message is very common when a computer is being removed from the web reports, but it still has an agent writing information. In this case, the computer cannot be removed without violating the constraint.
