Permissions

Top  Previous  Next

Access to the web reports can be controlled in many different ways, and permissions and privileges can be assigned to both user accounts and group accounts. Please see below for a list of restrictions that can be applied:

1.Only allow access to a selected number of pages
2.Block selected pages in the web reports
3.Only allow access to selected reports
4.Block selected reports
5.Only allow access to data gathered from certain computers
6.Block data gathered from certain computers
7.Permit or block certain privileges

It is possible to combine the above restrictions for more granular control, for example it is possible to give a user only access to the disk reports and restrict the computers that will be shown on the page.

Blocking or Allowing access to certain pages

The EventSentry web reports consist of various different pages, such as the disk reports, the event search and so on. You can use this feature in one of two ways:

Explicitly specify the authorized page(s), blocks all others
Explicitly specify blocked pages, allows access to all other pages

Explicitly specify the authorized page(s)

If a user only needs access to a subset of pages in the web reports and should not have access to any of the other pages, then you can list those pages in the Allowed Pages list for that user. Any page that is not in the list of allowed pages, is automatically blocked.

Explicitly specify blocked pages

If a user needs access to most pages, but should not be able to view certain restricted pages, then you can list the restricted pages in the Blocked Pages list for that user. The user will have access to all pages expect for those that are explicitly blocked.

Blocking or Allowing selected reports

Similar to controlling access to individual pages, access to reports can also be restricted in the same manner. You can use this feature in one of two ways:

Explicitly specify the authorized report(s), blocks all others
Explicitly specify blocked reports, allows access to all other reports

Blocking or Allowing access to data from certain computers

In addition to, or instead of, controlling access to individual pages and/or reports, you can block or authorize access to all data gathered by certain computers. This can be particularly useful if you want to provide your customers access to the web reports, but at the same time ensure that they can only view data that was generated by their machines. As such, if you block one or more computers, then those computers will essentially be filtered out from all pages, as if they do not exist.

This feature can be used in the following two ways:

Explicitly specify the authorized computer(s), blocks all others
Explicitly specify blocked computers, allows user to see data from all others

Keep in mind that this feature affects all pages, so data from restricted computers will not show up - even on pages the user is authorized to access.

Explicitly specify the authorized computer(s)

If a user only needs access to data from selected computers in the web reports, and should not see any data from any of the remaining computers, then you can list those computers in the Allowed Computers list for that user. Any computer that is not in the list of allowed computers, is automatically filtered (hidden).

Explicitly specify blocked computer(s)

If a user needs access to data from most computers, but should not be able to view data gathered from certain restricted computers, then you can list the restricted computers in the Blocked Computers list for that user. The user will have access to data from all computers expect from those that are explicitly blocked.
