Environment Monitoring

Top  Previous  Next

EventSentry can monitor temperature, humidity, motion, smoke and water through external sensors attached to the serial port. The hardware sensors are sold separately and can either be obtained from http://www.netikus.net (if you are located in the US) or directly from the manufacturer in Germany if you are located outside the US.

The following features are available and are configured through the Environment Container of the management application. All alerts generated by the environment monitoring feature are written to the Application event log.

Alert or Warning 1 24 n g

The USB connectors are only used to draw power, the temperature/humidity/etc. is measured using the serial port. In order to use the sensors, you have to connect both the USB and the serial connector.

Requirements

The motion, smoke and water sensors have RJ-45 connectors, and thus require at least one serial to RJ-45 adapter. We offer 1-port, 2-port and 4-port serial adapters, making it possible to connect up to four unique (you cannot attach the same type of sensor more than once to one computer at this time) sensors to one serial port.

Temperature Monitoring

Alert when the temperature is outside a configured range
Record temperature in database, view charts through the web reports
Fahrenheit / Celsius support

Temperature + Humidity Monitoring

Alert when the humidity is outside a configured range
Record humidity in database, view charts through the web reports

Motion Sensors

Alert when motion is detected
Record motion activity in database
Requires serial adapater

Smoke Sensor

The smoke sensor is attached to the serial port and can alert you whenever smoke is detected. The smoke sensor requires a serial adapter.

Water Sensor

The water sensor is attached to the serial port and can alert you whenever water is detected. The water sensor requires a serial adapter.

Please see the next chapter for more information on the configuration of this feature.
