Permissions
The following permissions are required to install EventSentry with the setup application:
• | Administrative permissions |
or
• | Permission to create and control services |
• | Permission to write files to %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32 |
• | Permission to write \Program Files directory |
• | Permission to write to the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software |
Network Services
The network services, unlike other components of the EventSentry suite, require the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable (x86 9.0.30729) to be installed. The network services service will not start unless the redistributable is installed. The EventSentry setup will automatically install the C++ runtime. The runtime is required on all supported versions of Windows.
|
The Network services service (which includes the syslog and snmp daemon) requires at least a 10-host heartbeat-only / network-services license.
|
Remote Update
The following requirements need to be met (on computers that are to be updated) in order to use all features of remote update:
• | The ADMIN$ share needs to be present in order for the agent to be installed automatically. Otherwise the agent can still be installed manually. |
• | The ADMIN$ share needs to be present for configuration updates to be pushed to the agents. If the ADMIN$ share does or cannot exist, then you can setup the ES$ share instead. |
• | The Client for Microsoft Networks needs to be installed |
These requirements only affect remote update. EventSentry can still be installed locally with the setup program on hosts that do not meet the above requirements.
Web Reporting
The EventSentry web reports work with the following web servers
• | Microsoft Internet Information Server 5 |
• | Microsoft Internet Information Server 6 (Note: IIS needs to run in 32-bit mode on x64 editions of Windows 2003 (see KB article 122) ) |
• | Microsoft Internet Information Server 7 |
• | Microsoft Internet Information Server 7.5 |
|
If you are running IIS on a x64 edition of Windows Server(2003 or 2008), then additional configuration steps might be necessary. Please review our KB article 122 for more information.
|
and require one of the following web browsers:
• | Mozilla Firefox 3.x or higher (recommended) |
• | Internet Explorer 7 or higher |
• | Apple Safari 5.x or higher |
The EventSentry web reporting requires a database (see "Database" below) server with an EventSentry database.
Database ODBC Drivers
When consolidating data to a central database, then the appropriate database ODBC drivers will need to be installed on each client that is to write to the database. No action is required when using a MS SQL Server database with Windows 2000 (or newer) hosts, but please see the table below for more information on which ODBC drivers need to be installed.
Database (optional)
A database server is required for the web-based reporting, and when consolidating event logs, system health and other information in a central database. EventSentry has been tested successfully with the following databases:
• | Microsoft SQL Server 2000 (with SP3a and later) |
• | Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (32-bit or 64-bit) |
• | Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (32-bit or 64-bit) |
• | Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (32-bit or 64-bit) |
• | MS SQL Server 2005 Express |
• | MS SQL Server 2008 Express |
• | MS SQL Server 2008 R2 Express |
• | MySQL 5.0 or higher with InnoDB support |
Hardware (optional)
When using the environment monitoring feature:
• | One available serial port (used for data collection) |
• | One available USB port (used for power) |
|
